How to do the digital detox while having your smartphone

Some people may think about throwing away one's smartphone to do complete this digital detox, but I think it doesn't have to be in that hard way.

There are some ways of digital detox while having your smartphone, so let's take a look at them together.

Step 1. Hide your app from the top screen

This is my iPad's top screen setting.

I mainly use my iPad to write my blog when I'm travelling or if I want to do something with my computer while researching something for my blog.

When I work with iPad, using it for quite a long time is fine because I work by using an iPad.

However, when I don't work and when I waste time by using the iPad, that is a problem.

So I tried to trick my brain to tell it that "iPad is not a fun tablet that you can waste time. There is nothing in your iPad !!!"

The reason the background colour is all black is because for me if there is a colourful background for the device, I get distracted so as many apps lining up in the front.

Hiding the app is quite useful when it comes to preventing destruction.

Less distraction means less time to use the devices, and of course, less time to use the devices means digital detox.

If you are not sure what to do for the first step of digital detox, I recommend you start by hiding the app from your top screen

Step 2. Delete the app that you don't have to use for a month

Life is quite fun without a lot of apps on your phone

The next step that you can try while having your smartphone is to delete the app that you don't use for a month.

This sounds like it's difficult for many people but it's the same logic of clothes management.

If you haven't used any type of clothes for a whole year, then it has less possibility that you use for next year.

My opinion here is the same logic applies to app management.

I would like you to take time to browse all the apps on your phone and try to find out if you haven't used any of them for a month or over a month.

If you know the password for the app, then it's time to say goodbye for a while; you haven't used that app for a month so you don't need that for another month.

Step 3. Try out the habit of not bringing your phone into your room

As I have written in a previous article, bringing a phone into your room is a really bad idea.

I think you may have looked up once in your life how bringing a smartphone into your room affects your sleeping quality, and yes it affects QUITE a lot.

Currently, I live in a flat sharing place but I have my own shelf outside of my room where I can put my own things.

It's perfect for storing all the devices because it's next to my room but it's outside my room, so when I sleep, I put all the devices on the shelf so that I will have no access from my bedroom to the devices.

If you do not have an isolated shelf, then preparing a box that you can close is also an alternative idea.

Before you go to bed, you can put all of your devices and close the box; That simple.

Also, you use your smartphone outside so unless you clean it quite often, it's dirty.

The physical distance between you can really help you to have a digital detox time because if you're not holding your phone in your hand, you wouldn't think about so bad.
