Minimalism is cleaning, and cleaning is minimalism.
This time, the focus is throwing things away which may be really difficult for some people.
In this blog post, I would like to share with you my own minimalist strategy called "The Warehouse Strategy".
Why is it so hard for me to throw things away?
I have no scientific data to prove this but, based on my experience I think the reason why it is difficult to throw things away for most people is because of the psychological attachment to the things that you own.
For example, if you want to be a minimalist and you are trying to reorganise your belongings, you may realise that you want to throw away none of them.
I assume the reason you cannot throw away anything is that you have worked so hard and you have paid to get the lovely T-shirt, for instance, and now you see it and realise that you like it.
This happened to me quite often when I tried to reorganise my stuff to become a minimalist, so I truly know how you feel when you reorganise your stuff.
Now the psychological struggle between the two of yourself; One wants to throw things away to become a minimalist, and the other one wants to keep your lovely belongings with you.
Now, let's take a look at how to draw a line between the things you throw away and the things you keep.
The easiest way to throw away things: Warehouse strategy
- Pull out all the clothes that you have from the shells
- Prepare a box that you put your clothes if you are not sure you want to throw them away
- The clothes that you want to definitely wear, put them back on your shelf.
- The clothes that you are not sure about wearing, put them into the box.
- When you finish, Open up your calendar and create a schedule like "Check the warehouse"
- Forget about the warehouse
