To say it short, I personally think that bringing your phone to your bedroom is the worst thing you can do in your life.
As I am a big fan of Digital Detox, I would never check my phone in my bedroom or in my bed.
Never bring your phone to your bedroom
According to the article Why You Should Not Sleep With Your Cell Phone at Night, “In addition, the light from phone, tablet, or computer screens may impact the ability to fall asleep.1 Small amounts of artificial light from the screens may cause a delay in the circadian rhythm.”
If you literally bring your smartphone to your bedroom and check the timeline or whatever till you fall asleep, you may have realized "Why I am so tired even though I have slept enough last night?".
It's because the lighting from the digital device will make your circadian rhythm think it's noon time, not night time and the sympathetic nervous system will be in active mode so you are more likely to have a difficult time falling asleep.

I do not want to line up all the data to this post but rather I would like to share some personal experiences that changed me by stopping bringing the phone to the bedroom.
When I had my own coffee business, I thought I was too busy that until I fall asleep, I needed to check all the notifications from clients and other updates.
However, I realized somehow that I just did not want to even see and touch the phone anymore.
Looking back at this turning point in my life, I think that was my physical and psychological limit to dealing with smartphones and digital devices.
The simplest solution ever for putting away your phone
Experiencing the limit of using the digital device, I tried a very simple solution that I still do today as well; put all the digital devices in your backpack at least 1 hour before you sleep.
Currently, I own 3 digital devices.
- Smartphone
- iPad
- MacBook
I only use my smartphone outside to contact my friends and listen to music, so when I come back home, it stays in my winter jacket pocket so it does not cross the border to my room.
Since I live in a sharehouse, the space only for myself is kind of limited but I'm doing fine managing all the devices.
iPad and MacBook are both for my professional use, so when I want to take a rest, there is no reason that I even touch them.
Put all the digital devices in your backpack at least 1 hour before you sleep.
Is that simple?
YES. It's that simple but the thing is not so many people make themselves do it so they have a problem dealing with the phone.
Nowadays, digital devices are all over the place and I personally think we need to go back to the old time when we had no digital devices for our mental health.
If you are interested in digital detox, then my posts would be something interesting for you to read out.
