Practising sports can be a digital detox method

In this post, I would like to talk about the relationship between practising sports and digital detox.

An easy social media detox introduction for everyone

I used to practice Kendo when I was very little and I finally started practising Kendo again here in Sweden after 20 years of being away from Kendo.

I started practising Kendo again after 20 years

Kendo has been away from my mind for about 20 years and now my flatmate has somehow related to Kendo and thanks to my flatmate, I visited the Kendo club here in Umeå, Sweden last week.

Before visiting the practice last week, I was not sure if I'm going to practice Kendo again or not but after having a conversation with Kendo practitioners and having some recovery training sessions, I was pretty sure that I would continue Kendo for a long time.

I have so many reasons that I want to start practising Kendo again and one of the reasons I want to practice Kendo again the most is that practising sport is a very good way of a digital detox as well as a sauna.

The reasons why I go to the sauna every day for a digital detox

Why practicing sports is good for a digital detox?

Let's talk about the basics of digital detox in this paragraph.

First of all, the purpose of trying a digital detox is to calm yourself and stay away from digital devices.

I have been doing the digital detox for many years, and the occasion that I do the digital detox the most is when I meet friends or in the morning drinking a cup of coffee.

You may read other articles of mine about digital detox here in Digital Detox, since I have written some posts for beginners to show the steps to start the digital detox.

Let's go back to the mainstream and talk about why practising sports is good for additional detox.

Usually, during your training or practice session, you don't have an opportunity to check your smartphone.

In my case, Kendo is a sport that requires you to show respect for other practitioners, and respect for the master, so during your practice session for Kendo, you will never be allowed to use your smartphone unless there is an emergency reason.

Also when you focus on sports, you will naturally think in a way that you don't feel like checking a smartphone because the real sport by move with your body is much more fun than being hooked into a small square device.

The upsides of practising sports or doing exercise is already explained scientifically and I am sure that it is worth pratcising sports for a long time.

"We all know that sports are great for your physical health. But sports also have many psychological benefits. Help moderate stress. About 75% to 90% of doctor visits are for stress-related illnesses. Sports help you manage stress. Exercise causes your body to release endorphins, the chemicals in your brain that relieve pain and stress. It also reduces the levels of stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline. Studies have shown that 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day can make people feel calmer. This calmness continues several hours after exercise."

(Quoted from Benefits of Sports for Mental Health)

To say short, if you want to start doing the excerisce, you can also think in a way that it will help you to motivate for a digital detox.
