A Japanese minimalist travel blogger Shinji Sverige here ;)
In the previous blog post, I talked about the reason why I do not use the washing machine.
This time, I would like to talk about the reason why your bedroom has to be clean all the time with the scientific data quotation.
The extreme minimalist from Japan tells you the life tips that you can start from today.
Understanding the reason why your bedroom has to be clean
This is my bedroom. Nothing else.
According to the article "What does clutter do to your brain and body?" "Research shows disorganisation and clutter have a cumulative effect on our brains. Our brains like order, and constant visual reminders of disorganisation drain our cognitive resources, reducing our ability to focus. The visual distraction of clutter increases cognitive overload and can reduce our working memory."
What this tells us is that the more you make your bedroom chaotic, the more you will be distracted easily.
We can also say that if your room or bedroom is chaotic, it will take a long time to find something you need so you will eventually lose a lot of time as well.
This isn’t productive and effective anyway…
Let’s take a look at my desk also in the same area as the bedroom; I am living in a share-house so there is only one private space for me.
This is what my desk looks like when I work.
Yes, I like to clean my desk.
I always make my desk clean and almost empty except for something that I need for work.
Understanding that the data shows the more your bedroom and the desk are organised, the more you can concentrate on your work or study, there is no reason that you don't clean your bedroom/work desk.
What you shouldn’t do in your bedroom.
Before going to the solution of how to make your bedroom clean, let’s talk about what we shouldn’t do in our bedroom.
To say short, you don’t want to bring any of the digital devices into your bedroom because if you start using your digital devices on your bed, it will be difficult for you to sleep on your bed.
Why is that?
If you use digital devices on your bed, then your brain will think that the bed is the place for using digital devices, not for sleeping, then if you really want to sleep on the bed, it will be difficult for you to sleep comfortably.
According to the
article by sleep foundation,
Numerous studies have established a link between using devices with screens before bed and an increase in sleep latency, or the amount of time it takes someone to fall asleep.
How to keep your bedroom as clean as possible.
Let’s go back to the mainstream and talk about how to keep your bedroom as clean as possible.
The simplest answer to this is you should not put on things which are not related to sleep.
The reason why your bedroom becomes messy is that you start bringing something irrelevant to sleeping in your bedroom; especially digital devices are the worst thing you can bring into your bedroom.
By the way, I’ve talked about how to organise your home/shelf in the other article so if you’re interested in learning how to organise your entire home, please try to read the articles below.
If you’re living in a share house like me and if you only have one private room there is still a solution.
Every time I finish using the computer or iPad, what I do is I turn off the power and I put it into my backpack.
If you are living in an apartment in which all your rooms are your private rooms, then deciding a place to use a computer or digital device can be your easiest solution.
If you decide to use the digital devices in room A, then the devices shouldn’t be outside room A because if you start bringing devices outside room A, eventually you’ll bring them to your bedroom because it’s so comfortable to lay down on the bed and watch a video on your devices.
Thanks for reading and I hope you will find something out in this blog post.
