The extreme minimalist talks about the relationship between air pollution and mental health.
It sounds like this is not related to minimalism, but actually, it is.
I will also explain the reason why I reached this point of view, so let's jump into it.
Air pollution effect on mental health
First of all, before we start talking about the actual impact on our mental health, let's research how polluted the air is at the place you live.
For example, I live in Umeå in Västerbotten County, Sweden, so I go to Västerbotten County in the World's Air Pollution map.
The number shown on the website is how clean the air is.
The lower the number is, the cleaner the air is.
One of the reasons I have moved to Umeå is its clean air.
I knew that the air pollution level affects my mental health, so I decided to live in a city which has clean air throughout the year.
According to the article from IQAir, "Some studies show that even brief, temporary air pollution exposure may be linked to an increased risk for mental disorders like depression and schizophrenia, with damage starting as early as childhood."
In my opinion, clean air makes feel me comfortable, and also contributes to my physical condition as well.
If I live a healthy life, I don’t have to go to the doctor often which means I don’t have to pay for the medical expense often.
This is very minimalistic both in terms of avoiding unnecessary expenses, spending more time in a way that you want and living long.
I have been telling you that minimalism is all about focusing, and focusing on the good quality of the environment is definitely a minimalistic decision.

From now on let’s talk about something practical.
I think there are three patterns of career planning to live in the city that you want to live in.
- Get the local job
- Get the fully remote job
- Become a full-time independent blogger/YouTuber
Get the local job
The first and the most stable way is to get a local job.
If you are an EU citizen, getting a job inside EU countries would not be something difficult if you have a specific skill set.
If you have a specific country that you want to live in and if you can get a local job there, that will be 100% amazing.
Since you’ll be involved with your local colleagues, then it will be much easier to make friends through them.
The same thing applies to the domestic case.
Also, having a full-time job and being a paid blogger at the same time is possible to do.

Get the fully remote job
The second option is to get a fully remote job.
This is actually what I do right now, technically it's a contract though, I live in Sweden but I am being paid by Japanese companies and a British company in addition to this blog site.
It’s always good if you have a job you can make money only with computers, then living in a different city with clean air will be easier.
Sometimes looking for a job in a completely different environment is difficult because the local company may want to hire local people, so if you want to be hired, you have to present an outstanding skill set.
On the other hand, this way is much easier than looking for a local job because the company doesn’t have to be the company in a specific region.
