Being a blogger doesn’t matter whether you are employed or independent, you will have a lot of skills that you can write in your resume.


In this article, I would like to share with you the upside of becoming a blogger in terms of your career.

The five skills that you can acquire by being a blogger are…

SEO skill



The first skill is obviously SEO skill.


As I have mentioned in the article "The 10 tips to write better blog posts in 2023", you have to learn the whole idea of SEO and you have to write the article based on the SEO strategy to grow your blog website.


If you are writing your blog post as your profession at a company or if you are seriously growing your own blog website as one of your income resources, you must be serious about SEO knowledge.


SEO skill is not an easy skill that anyone can acquire within a short period.


If you keep publishing your blog post for a long time, the more you spend using your brain to write better blog posts, the more you get advanced SEO skill.


SEO skill is absolutely okay to write in your resume because every single web marketer has to know the basics or ideally advanced level of SEO.

Sales Writing skill



The second skill that you can acquire from being a blogger is sales writing skill.


In short, sales writing is the writing skill that is used when writing an article or an email to sell a specific product; if you are an independent blogger it will be used for affiliate marketing.


Sales writing is a very precious and valuable skill because there has to be someone who can write a convincing sentence to sell a product to the customers.


To write a convincing sentence, you will have to fail many times because every single time you write the sales sentences, you will find what to improve to make your sentences more convincing.


The upside of this kill is that if you are left with nothing, no money, no job, and no place to live, the sales writing skill can help you to challenge yourself again because doesn’t matter how the Internet has changed society, there is always a demand for the sales writing skill.


Sales writing skill is a lifetime valuable skill that never goes bad.


Online Sales skill



The third skill you can get from blogging is online sales skill.


If you are an independent blogger and if you are open to offering your own web marketing consultation service or writing service, you will have to communicate with potential clients mostly online; because the inquiries will be through your website.


If you can present your skills and present your services with a confident attitude online, that will also be a valuable lifelong skill as well as a sales writing skill.


Blogging is one category of web marketing and blogging includes the skill of sales because sales and marketing are closely related to each other.


I think online communication skill is very important especially after many things that happened in 2022 have changed society globally.


A good marketer is a good salesperson.

A good salesperson is a good marketer.


Time management skill


The fourth skill that you can get from being a blogger is time management skill.


Time management skill seems to be underrated compared to other fabulous-looking skills, but I think time management skill is very important when you work with someone else.


Especially if you are an independent blogger with some contracts going on with some companies, you will always have to think about the deadline that your client has proposed.


You have to write great-quality blog posts for your client but at the same time, you have to manage the schedule to complete the articles.


Who wants to work with a person who cannot meet the deadline all the time?


If you are an employer looking for someone, do you want to hire a person with a decent skill set but meets deadlines all the time or do you want to hire a person with a brilliant skill who never meets the deadline?


Project management skill



Last but not least, project management skill is one of the most essential skills when you want to work with someone else.


Having my own blog and several contracts with companies, I always have several projects going on; right now I manage 4 projects simultaneously. 


If you are not good at project management, you will fail to meet the expected quality of your work or in the worst case, both quality and deadlines.


If you are not good at project management, I suggest you practice managing at least two projects simultaneously. 


If you are an independent blogger who is looking for a paid contract, start by helping someone’s website for free as a volunteer because it will be a good opportunity for you to practice project management.
