The more I spend days without a smartphone, the more I feel why I even have to think about getting it back.
Almost a week has passed since I broke my smartphone and decided to not own one anymore.
I have been able to continue the digital detox especially when I'm outside, and in my life overall.
In this article, I would like to introduce 3 benefits of not having a smartphone while being outside.
If you think like "Wait, there is no benefit of being without the Internet outside." This article will help you to realize that smartphone is not that important.
Let's take a look at it
3 benefits of a digital detox when outside
Spending the days without a smartphone, Day 1- Day 4, and Day 5 - Day 7, I felt like I am in a different world.
Before losing access to a smartphone, I thought it's gonna be difficult to live without my phone especially when I'm outside.
However, a week of interesting experience has taught me that if I prepare enough, there is no problem at all if I don't have smartphone / Internet access even when I'm outside.
By spending these wonderful days, I found three advantages of not having a smartphone; so to speak the easiest access to the Internet.
I do not look at my phone while walking
The most common transportation is the train in Japan.
In the train station or on a random street, we see a lot of people using smartphones while walking.
Unfortunately, I used to do it when I had my smartphone.
When I was used to doing that, I thought I was capable of watching the surrounding scenery and at my smartphone at the same time, but once I completely quit doing that and see the people who are still doing that on the street, now I understand how much attention is on a small screen.
Also, I saw many people almost hitting each other on the corner of the street because both of them use a smartphone while walking.
This is pretty dangerous when it comes to crash against cars or trains.
I have read the news article that a woman was hit by a train in the middle of the railway.
She was hit by a train and unfortunately passed away because she was texting on her smartphone and with the headphones playing music.
She could not realize the train coming towards her till a second before she was hit because she was looking at her smartphone.
BECAUSE SHE WAS LOOKING AT HER SMARTPHONE.
When I read this news article I deeply thought that nothing is more important than my own life.
Right now I think the fact that I lost access to my phone was very lucky for me from a long-term point of view.
I think I will stick to this lifestyle to protect my own life.
I do not worry about the battery
The second benefit of not having a smartphone while being outside is that you don't have to worry about the battery anymore.
This was actually my main concern of all time when I used to own my smartphone.
Living without a smartphone can teach you that a smartphone is not that necessary, but if you are still having one like me before, I think it is very difficult to think in a way that a smartphone is not necessary.
If you run out of battery it can be stressful, so how to reduce this type of stress is very simple; fundamental treatment.
If you have nothing to charge, then why do you have to worry about charging something?
It's this simple.
I could realize smartphone is not that essential
I don't have Internet access for three hours or more in a day but I become to realize at the time I spend without any electronic device is more comfortable than the time I keep using my smartphone or a laptop for many hours.
If you want to experience this benefit, you can leave your smartphone at your place and go somewhere else with your partner or with your family.
After reading this article and if you do so, then you'll need to realize how much time the human being is spending in front of the screen.
As I'm a freelance web marketer and blogger, I do have to spend some time in front of a laptop to make money.
So I want to reduce the time that I spend in front of an electronic device for my private life.
I love drinking coffee, I love meeting people, I love traveling, so for my private life, I don't have to be like heavily addicted to the Internet and electronic devices.
How do I manage my schedule?
I manage my schedule on Google calendar but I cannot check it outside.
I don't think this is a problem at all. At the end of the day if I come back home today I don't have to worry about the schedule for tomorrow because today, I'll sleep in my place, and tomorrow I'll wake up in my place.
In 70 days, I'll move to Sweden for the working holiday and stay there for about 12 months.
Even in a foreign country, I'll keep this lifestyle to have fun in the real life.
Sim card because I will need a local number but I don't have any intention to insert the Sim card into the smartphone which I'm using as an iPod.
( I do have the device which can be a smartphone but I only have a music app installed, and there is no SIM card in it, so technically it's an iPod)
