3 digital nomad advantages you have to know

3 digital nomad advantages you have to know

I have been working as an individual freelance for five years right now, and the time I became a digital nomad was right after the Covid pandemic happened.

I had a hard time giving up my own coffee business, but right now I have no regret that I am spending my wonderful days as a digital nomad working remotely.

In this article, I would like to talk about why this lifestyle is so amazing and three reasons you should consider yourself becoming one.

Being a digital nomad is amazing

If you are kind of lost about what you would do next for your occupation, I suggest becoming a digital nomad.

3 digital nomad advantages you have to know are...

  1. No more commuting
  2. No more office
  3. No more overwork, more time flexibility

No more commuting

If you choose to work as a freelance which makes it possible to work and live as a digital nomad, you are 100% free from commuting stress.

According to a Robert Half study, 50% of working people feel stress about their commuting and 45% of people think their commuting time is too long.

This study was done in some states in America, but I think we can say the same thing about one of the biggest cities in the world "Tokyo".

For me, it didn't make me happy or it didn't give me something productive.

When I was working at the company, I was lucky enough to find a house 30 minutes walk from the company, so I chose to walk every single morning to the company.

However, whenever I had to take a morning commuting train to go to a client's office directly from home, that was nothing but a terrible nightmare.

Unless your commuting is so much fun, for example, listening to a podcast while riding on a train or riding a bicycle to the office as a part of your exercise, commuting is nothing but stress.

I think this is the most valuable reason that you want to choose to work as a digital nomad.

What you have to have is only your laptop and the Internet, so you can actually work from home or you can work and travel at the same time.

Decreasing the time you do not like is the basic idea of Minimalism that I have been sharing on this blog.

If you want to know more about why decreasing unnecessary time is so valuable to do, please refer to the article "Minimalist lifestyle tips: thinking about the meaning of "Less is more""

Bye-bye morning train and traffic jam. Forever.

No more office

The second advantage of being a digital nomad is that there is no office anymore.

As this is kind of related to the first advantage, no need to commute means you can choose the place you want to live; wherever you want!!!

Or if you are a person like me, who is obsessed with visiting many new places, you can put your laptop in the backpack and travel long enough and work at the same time.

If you are living in a place that you didn't choose, meaning the place that the company has designated, becoming a digital nomad can decrease the stress of this point.

I love to visit coffee shops, so writing an article about coffee shops that I visit is nothing but a dream job.

I wrote both of the above articles when I was actually staying at each coffee shop while drinking the amazing cup of coffee.

You can be anywhere you want.

No more overwork, More time flexibility

The third advantage of being a digital nomad is that there is no more overwork.

However, most of the time, if you choose to work as a freelance, there is no working time as well.

I have been working independently for quite some time, so I would like to highlight some points about this.

When you work as a freelance digital nomad, you need to regulate yourself in many aspects.

For example, the basic one is the working time.

Even though you are doing something really fun for your job as a freelance, if you work 18 hours or 20 hours per day, you will absolutely be physically exhausted.

So you need to regulate yourself from what time to what time you work, and when you do not work.

Another point that I have to strongly insist on this point is that if you want to work as a freelance digital nomad, you want to have one strong skillset which enables you to work remotely.

In my case, I have been doing web marketing and SEO-related work for many years, so while writing this blog as a part of my work, I have a contract with a Japanese small company and I provide SEO-related content marketing consulting.

Basically, without any specific skill set that you can use as a digital nomad, WEB marketing? Content-creating skills? Programming? Filming or photo skills? etc..., it is so difficult to become an independent digital nomad.

However, going back to the mainstream, if you have enough skillsets and the ability to regulate yourself, being a digital nomad suits you really well because you will have a lot of time flexibility.

You are the owner of your own time.

I hope this article has helped you to understand more deeply about becoming a digital nomad.
